Description of Toro Super Blower/Vac (51592)Sold as one unit. (1 unit = each.) 12A motor. 235 MPH. Air velocity 2 speed. 10:1 bagging ratio. Improved design for even easier conversion. Weighs only 6.4 lbs. Blower, crevice tool and vac kit included. Boxed. Manufacturer number: 51592. SKU #: 76924. Country of origin: Mexico. Distributed by Toro Company the. Hang on to Toto when you fire this baby up--the air blast out of this blower is phenomenal! The literature says it produces up to a 215 mph current, and they're not kidding. It converts in a few seconds to a vacuum by removing the inlet tube and cover; just hook the front of the vacuum tube on and snap. Attach the generous bag and you're ready to pick up the mountain of leaves you've blown. As it vacuums, the fan impeller will mulch the leaves down, too, reducing 10 bags to 1. We like the ergonomic handle and the comfortable strap. The tubes are sturdy and won't crack if you accidentally whack them. It's a light unit at 7.3 pounds, and it's not nearly as loud as most, though at 69 decibels, you'll still want to wear ear protection. Bravo, Toro! --Kris Jensen-Van Heste
Tools and Hardware Reviews of Toro Super Blower/Vac (51592)Customer Review: Pleasantly Surprised! Summary: 5 Stars
I was actually shopping for a "Flowtron Leaf Eater," but the store didn't have one. A salesperson recommended the Toro Blower/Vac Model 51598 (I paid $75) so I thought I'd try it. Now that I've read the comments about the 51591 model, I think this more expensive model may solve many of the problems raised. The blade is metal and there is a variable power dial. The machine is fairly quiet and lightweight enough for me to use, despite my 5'2" height. There was no need for goggles and there wasn't any problem with shredded residue spraying all over my clothing.
I had raked about 10 bags of leaves a few weeks ago, but just today took out the Toro to make mulch for my garden beds (we have about 1/4 acre lot). I did start by blowing the leaves that had fallen in the meantime and found the blower very powerful. It was a bit difficult to control where the piled leaves were going, but with practice, I think this will not be a problem. The Toro easily switched into a vacuum/shredder.
The leaves I bagged earlier had become fairly compacted (especially since I stood on them to push them tightly into the bags), so I found that I really needed to kick them into a loose pile. The Toro easily handled the leaves and fairly thick twigs. When it stopped, I shut it off and reached into the funnel to pull out clumps, then started it right up again.
I tried various configurations of mulching. First I strapped the bag over one shoulder and filled it with mulch. Afterward, I would balance the bag over a trash can lined with a heavy duty 42 gallon trash bag. The trash bag could accommodate two mulched bagfuls of shredded leaves. Then I would pull the trash can around the property to spread the leaf mulch around the garden beds. I also tried vacuuming with the bag resting on the ground and this seemed easier than wearing the bag over my shoulder.
I then tried vacuuming leaves with no bag on the system and letting the mulch blow directly onto the bed I was cleaning. The main problem with this was that the shredded leaves were blowing up too high and getting caught in the plants. I wouldn't do it this way again.
Finally, I tried walking around the property to suck up the leaves without raking them into piles first. This worked equally as well as sucking them up from piles.
I am very pleased with this product and hope that it lasts many seasons. I am also curious, since no one else mentioned this, as to how much the shredded leaves will decompose by the spring. I hope I don't have to rake the beds all over again.
I'll add my final summation in the spring, but for now, I would highly recommend the Toro 51598 Blower/Vac.
